     U.S. BRIG SYREN
          Scale: 1/64th

Built by Nathaniel Hutton at Philadelphia in 1803 the Syren, was a 240-ton Brig. On September 27th, she set sail for Gibraltar under the command of Lt. Charles Stewart. The Syren participated in the attacks on Tripoli. She remained there for almost a year after the peace treaty with Tripoli was signed on June 10, 1805. She was laid up until her reactivation in 1807 at the Washington Navy Yard. Syren was put back into service and sailed until her capture by the 74-gun HMS Medway during the War of 1812, after an 11 hour chace.

Now you can build a true 3/16th scale replica of this historic vessel that will be over 33" long and over 27" high. This kit is a faithful representation of the 18 gun U.S. Brig Syren. Designed by Chuck Passaro, this kit is authentic to the last detail and Model Ship has taken several steps to improve their already great kits. Basswood keel and bulkheads are laser cut for easy assembly, and framing templates help you build a perfect hull. the kit also includes several sizes of basswood strips for deck and hull planking, self-adhesive copper tape for plating the hull below the waterline, a fittings package that includes photo-etched brass detailing, brass eyebolts, belaying pins, nails, gudgeons and pin tales, over 200 wooden blocks and deadeyes, gratings, plus dowels for masts and spars. Several sizes of tan and black rigging line, netting, brass chain, brass photo-etched pieces, printed flags and grating are supplied as well. Armament consists of 16 precision-cast Britannia metal carronades and two long guns on wooden trucks, also figure head, bell, wheel, and more. The model carries a ship’s longboat that’s a mini-kit in itself. Actual sized plans are on 8 sheets, The most notable improvement is the EXCELLENT, 140-page spiral bound instruction manual that shows step by step all stages of construction.
