Chesapeake Bay Skipjack WILLY BENNET

Scale 1/32
This is a beautiful, highly detailed,
1/32nd scale wooden model kit of the Chesapeake Skift, Willie Bennet from
Model Shipways. The WILLIE
BENNET was built in 1899 at Inverness, Maryland and was the last type of
sailing vessel developed on Chesapeake Bay for commercial operation.
Her lines were recorded at Cambridge, Maryland
by naval historian Howard Chapelle in 1942. Her whereabouts were unknown
from 1942 until 1954, when she was discovered sunken in Harris Creek,
Tilghman Island off Maryland’s Eastern Shore. After she was raised and
surveyed, it was determined that the damage was too expensive to repair. She
was then returned to her resting place, where traces of her remains may
still be found.
Now you can build a true replica of this historic vessel that will be over
24" long and 16" high. This wonderful Beginner kit features the
plank-on-frame construction the same technique used in construction of the
real boats, Basswood laser cut wooden molds, keelson and transom, cast
Britannia metal anchor, ship's wheel and deck machinery, wood Deadeyes and
blocks, brass for eyes, hoops, rings and chain, Sail cloth and rigging line,
and with the 56 page instruction book by Ben Lankford and three sheets of
plans that are so accurate that you could almost build a real skipjack using
them will truly make this vessel a joy to assemble and display
